hello all, curious what anime you would recommend for people who do not habitually watch anime and/or dislike a lot of silly anime tropes and fanservice type stuff. partly for anyone who stumbles upon the board. partly for me OP. I enjoyed Serial Experiments Lain and ergo;proxy, tried to enjoy Shippuden but too much silliness. I'm ok with comic relief and fun stuff but prefer a more serious/realistic/believable environment and story writing

I heard some say Frieren fits that mould.

well I mean you can just search around with "adult" tag (non hentai one) or seinen(?) Anyway why not check out Satoshi Kon's pieces for starters. Might be in your interest.

>>1050976 Ghost in the shell. it's hard to call some more actually, because anime usually is a very... "asian" thing. In general today because of multiculturalism, anime is becoming more and more normal in society tbh, but if your friends are still conservative (what I respect), I'd recommend that one I named.

My non-anime friends really enjoyed One Punch man and Castlevania.

There's always the good old gateway animes, cowboy bebop, Trigun, fma, samurai champloo. Frieren is another good one that someone else said. And in the same vein as kinos last tour mushishi is another one

I also agree with the reply above me. I've personally not watched anime in a very long time so I can relate to you. Honestly, I'd say watch Studio Ghibli movies? Not sure why I fell off from it, maybe it became too popular and discussing anything online still attracted the Shonen mouthbreather types. It's shameful that things have changed so so much even since 2014, a unremarkable year. I guess I've moved on from the medium altogether.

I love Planetes, it follows a crew of space debris collectors trying to keep Earth's orbit safe for satellite deployment and space travel.
