Instant messaging apps for PC and mobile

| We're afraid of Telegram going down any time due to the situation. Signal is messy and Discord drains battery too fast. What do we use? Matrix?

| Maybe Kik, Line? but your friends need to use the platform too, good instant messaging app without friends is little ueless

| Matrix is what I use. IRC is another option maybe? There are also XMPP messengers like Delta Chat for mobile and PC.

| Trust me, you do not want to use Line if even Discord is bad for your battery

| Use XMPP/Jabber.

I recommend "conversations" for mobile/android devices and "psi+" for desktop devices. Both support OMEMO e2e encryption and are compatible wiht openpgp (via openkeychain on android and kleopatra on desktop).

And pls don't use windows or macos. They have no future anyways. At least no future you want to live in.

DeltaChat is no XMPP Client. It's an instant messenger which is compatible with email protocols (like imap and smpt).
It's a very interesting alternative. I use it myself. Unfortunately the big email-providers are troublesome to configure (They argue, third-party apps being generally "insecure" or technically bad, which is a ironical, since usually software from service providers suck ass).

| >>839251 i have xperia 10 ii and my phone can usually last whole day of active using

| >>839300 Thanks for correcting me on Delta Chat not being an XMPP client. I remember having problems with my protonmail account so I had to use my disroot email for Delta Chat. So if OP is using a free proton account they might have issues.

| I use IRC when these two aren't an option (like, when my connection is too slow). Sometimes I consider using a bouncer, though.

| Bsjen

| San Flow SwiftKey

| I very like miranda-im, then i went to miranda-ng, forgot why, may be it for discord protocol ot smth oth. And then i went to Arch.. linux!!!
But miranda only on windows [deep cries].

| Anyway miranda, or other like IM is not so good with dwm (window manager).. may be someone knows some console IM with miranda-like functionality (and modularity), maybe with ncurses?
