Bought a mac that is from 2011 which is upgraded to highest Os it can have which is El Capitan or whatever and it screams and heats up like a bitch. If I were to downgrade it to snow leopard what software would make it feasible to even use since many browsers arent compatible and homebrew is already a crapshoot on the latest OS it has installed on it? Any useful websites for this sort of thing and would it be just a gimmick at best?

Why not install a lightweight Linux distro? I have a 2010 model running great on MX Linux atm. Personally, I'd prefer Pop_OS, but GNOME runs hot as fuck on these old cpus.

>>835606 I have a bad tendency to distro hop but have actually tried Mx b4 and remember it fondly. Was actually thinking installing a distro since alot of the distros are pretty lightweight comparatively. Then remembered the times the computer had compatibilty issues with connecting with other hardware/bluetooth and dealing with wine to run exes(this was on newer dell laptops) Also was curious about snow leopard. Usually I use the computers for browsing and youtube-dl/ytp-dl

I'd say run the version of Mac os before they got rid of 32 bit support if that's what you are after, it's up to date enough that you can run modern web browsers but hopefully less hungry than current osx

You could upgrade you Mac by installing GNU/Linux.
