No one ever mention about the steam controller or use it again since it's launch. I swear that no one talks about it anymore. And gonna be honest, the steam controller is actually kinda terrible than Playstation or Xbox one.

No one's gonna talk about a product that no one owns duh. Like the steam controller, or the ps5.

I'm pretty happy with it but I don't use it because I don't want to customize the control scheme for every game and sometimes it doesn't just want to act like a normal controller, I just want to pick up and play
Haptics are cool, it's chonky and fits my big hands, bottom extra buttons are a good add, AA batteries gives me an excuse to collect more ni-mh batteries
Works over Bluetooth so you can just connect it to your phone and use steam link

> I just want to pick up and play
This applies to many niche "hackable" stuff tbh. Most of us aren't hackers on the couch

I have one. I was excited to use it and it felt good to use, just in the end didn't feel right.

The steam controller only runs on steam. You can't use it for any other games unless you connect it to steam, and since all my PCs runs on electricity it won't work for me.

>>831755 this is the only problem with it it's a big problem it's also easily the best controller to date nothing even compares

>>832189 That's cool. I like the 360 controller so much I've been thinking of buying a corded xbox one controller for my pc. Are you ready to bet your soul and first-born son that the steam controller suprasses it? Because I'm looking to buy a new one as soon as song-chans hospital bill is paid off.

>>832199 360 and steam controllers are diffrent and using them are diffrent skills, steam having the touch pads and gyro controll
which make for a first class desktop experiance from a couch/bed as the touch keyboard is actually good combine that with the ergonomics and it also beats any bluetooth keyboard/keyboard i've used.
so if you only play games which are controller focused you won't get much from it. for desktop purposes / mouse games it's the best.

>>831046 Setup and configure a device you own isn't hacking as driving and maintaining a car isn't engineering. Also hacking is neither harm- or stressful just like any other activities people have as hobby. Passive consumerism is boring and unsatisfying. Get rid of the stupid believe that private companies technology is about making your live easier in the first place. Their owners will always seek ways to become a monopoly by bypassing law through lobbyism and product design.

Regarding the steam controller: I personally never would buy one, but I don't mind if other people do. It's not a product that excludes others. In my household we play games with a bunch of cheap 15 year old gamepads, which still run flawlessly thanks to good treatment and simple free and open software. No online services, no firmware updates, just sometimes a bit configuration and mechanical maintenance.

>>832454 you have to setup the controller to work for every game you want to play because often the game won't have a preset or the one it does have is bad. Sometimes the software doesn't want me to set it up as a proper controller anyway
Also as an aside you seem to have taken that comment rather personally

>>832493 >you have to setup the controller to work for every game you want to play Yeah, it takes >1 min once per game. Still faster than messing with whacky driver/firmware issues or buying the 5000st controller exclusive to a certain software or hardware platform. I'm also pretty sure most people don't want to play thousands of new games every day. Anyways, I don't care if others waste their time and money for bad products, as long they don't restrict the usage of alternatives.

>>832735 "faster than messing with wacky firmware/driver"
So I use a mayflash magic-ns and the entire setup for using a PS4 controller was, plug-in, sync, play video game
Steam controller is the same but add "change settings" for every game plus sometimes I just miss the second stick
You might actually like a magic ns or whatever the new version is, let's you convert button inputs to whatever other type of controller you want so use a Xbox controller on a switch for instance

I mostly use it to convert PS4 controller to a Xbox 360 because while steam supports both windows likes to switch my audio device to the fucking controller when I connect it normally

>>832917 this for real though they haven't pushed a steam controller update in years and they took the battery display away so you have to guess when to replace them or use a 3rd party tool
