i'm sorry for annoying but i have stupid idea... how much bad is trying install live version of windows 10/11 (over rufus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAioRu-diNk ) on 512 GB sd card of type uhs-1 and use it for gaming? Will system works well or there can be some system lags? and how long can this kind of sd card survive from view of writes?
I want honestly mainly use SteamOS what will be there.. but if there was compatibility problem, i'm thinking about this SD 1/2

It's not a stupid idea. Half of the fun with gadgets like these is the ability to hack them and make them do what you want them to do. Regarding prolonging the longevity of SD cards try disabling logging to windows log files to decrease the amount of uneeded writing to the card. It's not like you'll need log files for something like a portable game machine. Good luck with the hacking, g/u/rl!

>>830209 i did hear that a lot of steam deck users plans dual boot, but honestly i don't like idea of splited 2 virtual drives.. i want one local drive for Steam OS, 256 gb is already small to be honest.. it's what bringed me to idea of external drive on usb-c originally but it is unpractical, and than my brain was thinking.. wait what if os was running on SD? xd thank you a lot for idea about logs, i didn't thought that this kind of things can be disabled, i will look for it ^^

Honestly using Windows on this king of device is the worse idea ever.
First Windows is unoptimized and will bring low performances and a horrible battery life.
It is not a portable console OS, good luck to use it without a keyboard and a mouse, the steamdeck's driver will probably not be compatible natively with Windows.
Dynamic save cloud and sleep mode while playing won't work on Windows.
And just wait, every non compatible games are gonna be compatible real quickly.

*kind of device
The only games that don't work are the one using anticheats. A week ago Valve announced that for EAC, dev only needs to add a file and activate epic proton support on the website, no need to update the games or compile them again.
There is already an unofficial open source launcher for the Epic Games store, and lutris support games from every store.
Remember that in 2018, less than 30 games worked thanks to proton.
