When Adobe Stopped Flash Content, It Also Stopped A Chinese Railroad

| Adobe's Flash, the web browser plug-in is now finally gone, after a long, slow, protracted death. For most of us, this just means that some goofy webgame you searched for out of misplaced nostalgia will no longer run. For a select few in China, though, the death of Flash meant being late to work, because the city of Dalian in northern China was running their railroad system on it.

| The railroad's technicians did get everything back up and running, but the way they did this is fascinating, too. They didn't switch the rail management system to some other, more modern codebase or software installation; instead, they installed a pirated version of Flash that was still operational.

| That nostalgia bit hurt because it was true

| Thats amazing and i will proabably also download pirated flash now because of it

| I don't get people taking a shit on Flash, if you don't like it then kindly fuck off. For the rest of us, there simply isn't any replacement. It's not like there's a better version out there, that's like getting rid of salt in pepper because "nobody uses it", it's moronic. People aren't gonna start coding animations in Unity just because Flash isn't around anymore, all that happened is we can no longer make infinite resolution animations. Thanks for nothing.

| Flash is crap. It's good that it died, and it's a pity that things like javascript can't have the same fate.

And using a pirated version of flash? While there are open source softwares doing the same? They deserve their crap

| Someone from silicon Valley wrote this i,m sure.

A lot of systems run on old stuff. We have offices on win xp still nuke codes on floppy disks and more

| >>733722 mmmm yes big tech I love kicking your boots mmmm can't wait to coonsoom next product

| >>733819 licking

| Wild. All the death of Flash to me meant was checking a porn site for a game I've played and seeing the customizable girl go though all her outfits at lightning speed (which was hilarious)

But yeah in our interconnected world you never know what software someone is relying on cause no one thought of (or cared to fund) porting the program to the next big thing

I want big tech to stop a railroad in my ass

| There's been a few threads here about flash

Fact of the matter is flash constantly had new remote code execution vulnerabilities found and was a detrament to security, if you want to run flash you should download the swf and use an offline version that shit still works so calm your tits

| >>c2be45 Yes, because having a bored sociopath gain access to the entire rail network rerouting tracks is the same as having your excel file corrupted.

| >>734748 you might (not) be surprised, how often is there no difference between those two

| >>94164e
^is right. The last time my excel file got corrupted it killed 40 people

| Shame it died, but understandable. The servers of the one game still using flash I play daily will be shut down, but the players community built an open source project reproducing the game. The name is die2nite, if anyone knows.

| That is a pretty cool fix they decided on.
