Just random topics about laptops.
I've been planning on expanding my storage to 1TB, should I replace my M.2 NVMe? I only have 1 slot, and it would be a hassle to reinstall the OS and redownload everything. Or should I go for a SATA SSD instead? Problem about his is that my laptop doesn't have a SATA connector or cable, and finding the right one is going to be hard.

No effort! Effort BAD! Put your files on ‘the cloud’ then replace the M2.

>>1068915 I never tried cloning before, but I have considered it while researching about having a new SSD. Though I kind of want to have clean blank slate of an SSD, where I could start over and install programs and software I actually need, as of right now I have a messy SSD. But I will consider cloning.

to reinstall all installed software on os 1: dpkg --get-selections > packages.txt on os 2: sudo dpkg --set-selections < installed_packages.txt sudo apt-get dselect-upgrade rpm can do the same with -qa and install $(cat packages.txt). if you run nix or some other hyperautistic snowflake os, idk figure it out

Do you bring your laptop around? Because a SATA reader that connects to USB is cheap and sold pretty much everywhere and also works perfectly well. Might be a hassle to bring around though.

>>1068932 I bring my laptop outside 4x a week. Unfortunately, I already have a mouse and an external keyboard (certain keys no longer work) plugged in to two of my USB ports, adding in with a USB Hub feels a bit cluttered. I like the idea though.

I will upgrade my dad's 128GB SSD with a 500GB variant because he ran out of storage (can't even update windows anymore). I will be using "Macrium Reflect Home" to first clone the drive and then "extend" the partition. All you need is a cheap m.2 usb enclosure for this procedure. I know you can do it too OP!

To anyone who uses their laptop on a desk all day, do you have a desk setup dedicated for it? I have a cooling pad and an external keyboard, because before I knew how to clean my laptop's fan, when playing Tomb Raider (2013) and GTA IV, my laptop would hava a massive frame drop. The cooling pad worked, despite how cheap and weak it is. I also wanted to fix my poor posture.

>>1069124 I will, once December comes. I am currently trying to find some that are PCIe 3.0 with DRAM, so it's cheap and on par with the laptop's specs. I did found one, which is AData XPG SX8200 Pro, but it sold out immediately. If I can't find anything similar, I may as well go for PCIe 4.0 without DRAM, but uses TLC. >>1069141 I forgot to consider my browser history, I forgot I'm no longer using Chrome.

it didnt work?? The clone was successful but windows refuses to boot from that ssd in his laptop. It works fine in mine so the problem gotta be his laptop...

>>1069624 It's missing the motherboard drivers for his laptop since you made the clone on your PC it only incorporated the drivers for your motherboard.
Maybe a clean install will be the least hassle after all.

>>1069626 You're assuming a lot here. Why would I make the clone on my PC? I don't want to clone my own PC, do I? And whatever you said about drivers... that's now how cloning works. A clone is a 1:1 copy of the original, nothing gets changed.

>>4d6633 Bro, there was absolutely _nothing_ offensive about that assumption but somehow you got your delicate sensibilities offended and proceeded to throw an attitude around because of it? Why? How sensitive of a person are you??
Get a grip on yourself and enjoy not having a working laptop then, I guess.
