It could be any song but the internet chooseth this one.
And maybe Darude - Sandstorm but I haven't heard anyone remind me of that one in a while.

On a second thought, Sandstorm isn't even close to reaching eternal meme status. It's just a little longer lasting than Africa.

it's the drum fill at the beginning that really sells it imo

Wasn't it started with something called Duckroll? I remember reading about the origin and it mentioned about that.

It grew in popularity as a bait-and-switch meme, much like the stickbug meme. The origin was duckroll as >>842900 said, but I don't know more than that. The song is a banger though, which may explain why it became so popular.

This video essay is pretty good at explaining the song's popularity and also like, early internet memes in general: https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ

Wait if people like the song does that mean they aren't actually upset to be rickrolled??
That kinda make sense. Like covid, it has lower death rate, so it lasts way longer than SARS.
Ergo, "going viral" literally works like a viral infection.

I always thought "Once in a Lifetime" from Talking Heads would be a great alternative
