"My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why"
Some may not know what the song is called, some may only know it from the song that samples it, some may not know either and have only heard a bit of it in passing or on radio or whatever. But I don't think I know a single person who does not instantly recognise that verse from just that line. Maybe not everyone will in text form, but if you sing that? Everyone knows. Guaranteed.

I don't know why but that line reminds me of the song "Stan" by Eminem

>>842443>>842445 The verse was sampled to serve as a chorus in Stan by Eminem. The original is Thank You by Dido.

>>842456 It certainly seems it hast
>>842457 Well, now you do! Even though it's only the first verse that's so iconic the whole song is honestly great. Really cool music video too.

Btw, full verse is: "My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all The morning rain clouds up my window, and I can't see at all And even if I could, it'd all be grey But your picture on my wall It reminds me that it's not so bad It's not so bad"
But my point is that even if someone doesn't know the whole verse or either of the massive songs it's been used in, just the first few words of the verse is enough for the vast majority of people to know it, and that's cool.

Also, I think it speaks volumes about just how strong that shit is when the No Angel album (the album Thank You is from) AND the song that sampled it both got platinum. Just good music.

Honestly, I listened to both songs and didn't recognize them. I think I might've heard the original Dido song before but not sure. In my opinion the most recognisable line in music would be something like "happy birthday to you", or "jingle bells, jingle bells", or "Never gonna give you up" ;)

>>842532 I mean, true. Those (maybe with the exception of the last one) are fully and completely universal, since every single language has their own translation of the songs and it's played or sung during yearly events. But, you get what I mean, right? I'm obviously exaggerating in the title, your examples are some of the best ones out there, but you get what I'm saying, yeah?

>>842545 I guess I do but I personally honestly didn't recognize the songs even after I listened to them. I guess I just have never come across those except for maybe once in my life.

>>842532 I think an argument can be made for “Oh say can you see” as well. The fact that every sports game has to start with the national anthem makes the opening line pretty recognizable on a global scale.

>>842556 Fair, fair. Before I ever listened to either I always recognised it from somewhere and everyone I know knows at least one of them and recognise it just from that line, so I guess I assumed a little too much. Still though.

>>842580 I find my answer to be pretty ironic though as most Americans probably don’t know all of the lyrics to the song lmao.

OP I'll be real, that line triggers absolutely no memory to me. I have never heard a song with that line in my entire life.
I'm not american tho, so maybe that's a factor.

>>843579 I'm not american either... And, damn. Maybe those songs were just really big here? The English speakers I know also know it though, but maybe that's, like, coincidental or some.
