I'm this close to figuring it out. I think it: - Originated in mid/late 80s and existed through the 90s - Not considered a special genre at the time and simply marketed as Pop - Heavy use of electronic drum and keyboard, sometimes with funky bass - Japan or Asia comes to mind, but there are Western samples

the info on Wikipedia is accurate. There is a citypop subreddit, if you can stand going on reddit

Ohh I think I've listened to some of it! Are "Plastic Love", "Flyday Chinatown" good examples of City Pop?
