Juicy beats

| I can't make 'em. Music is my passion - learned to play sax a few years ago, almost regularly trying to create something new and yet I struggle with beats. It's almost like my brain is hotwired to use only some instruments. Can someone give any advices and/or tutorials about creating them?

| What genre of beat op are trying to make?

Jazz mostly - I can make some simple beats but the wacky ones like those in 9/8 or 5/4 gives me a really hard time.
J-Rock and D'n'B are next on the list.

| Oh whose are harrd.
What is the particular part of the process op feels stuck?

| My workflow towards non-4/4 is to laid down the crusis with kick and snare frist, then fills in perc and bassline afterward.
Finds some drums examples online for reference also helps.

Err... I just don't know how to approach them - at all. Imagine a child learning about metronome.
