Apart from classical music (I'm slowly getting into it but I still prefer the newer genres). Can anybody recommend something that can compete with all of this amazing musicanship, polyphony, dynamics, excitiment and diversity Yes incorporated into their music throughout 70s?

Yes is my favourite prog band after King Crimson. Fragile still slaps and Close to the Edge is a classic. I'd recommend 70-80s KC works, especially - In the Court - Islands - Red - Larks' Tongue in Aspic - Discipline
Selling England by the Pound by Genesis is also good.
