It's not that anyone 'bothers staying'. It's that for a lot of people staying is their only choice. It costs resources to *leave*. Not to mention all the other BS one has to go through to ensure they're not going from one shitty place to another.
Also I noticed you didn't bring up the cyber zombies. Was that one in your blind spot? You ignored the mugging, gang violence, and such too. Are you trying to say something here?

I feel like this is already been answered in so many words. Ultimately for safety, whether as insurance or as a warning. There's also people who use them for work.

No, I'm not a fan of toe stepping, but when you work with 2 people with opposing views, your bound to step on one's toes when backing away from another.
And when you carry a gun for as long as I have, over time, it begins to feel wrong to leave it at home, like a part of you is missing.
