MECHWIKI: The Wiki Any Chummer Can Edit!

| >What's this? An unsecured Matrix-vpn network that's been abandoned? Don't mind if you do...

>It looks like someone was looking up articles on "MECHWIKI: The Wiki Any Chummer Can Edit!" which is strange since its a public wiki in a public databoard- and to your knowledge, there's no spam to speak of. The wiki page seems to be set to an article about an archaic B.A.V, or Bipedal Armored Vehicle, which last saw use during the Union Civil War (Protectorate Space) around half a decade ago.

>There's a few sections you can jump to, or you can read from the top. The choice is yours. You got nothing better to do on the Matrix anyway... right?

>An inset shows a well-used tank which appears to be "sitting" on a short ledge, with one leg "kneeling" on the ledge while the other hangs freely. Were it not for the soldier straddling one of the vehicle's cannons, it would be easy to misjudge the mech's size.

The B.A.V 3, also colloquially known as the "sheepfather" or the "Ram,"[1] was the most mass produced generation of mech fielded by the Crisian Confederacy at the beginning of the Civil War, lasting well into the conflict even as the Protectorate produced more modular Generation 2 and Generation 3 "suits," themselves resembling power armor as opposed to tanks on legs.[2]

The technology necessary to produce the BAV's and its short lived successor, the B.A.V 4 , evolved from light and heavy agricultural equipment that emphasized low skill mastery and intuitive learning, allowing prospective operators to spend fewer hours in training before being deployed into live combat. This policy extended to the vehicle's upkeep and maintenance, crediting it and its descendants a level of modularity and ease of repair not normally seen outside of the Union's space fleet.[3]

As the war continued and colonies increasingly turned to conscription and indebted servitude, the necessity for quick turnaround often lead to reports of infantry and low-grade NCO's being "misplaced" in the mech corps, regardless of their training with the vehicle's operation or armaments. (Citation Needed)

While the Confederacy reportedly planned to develop the vehicle further, the surprise orbital bombardment and subsequent annihilation of Crisia's habitability crippled the Confederation's manufacturing capability- the surviving members of the Confederation's War Department quickly de-emphasized ground assault vehicles and shuffled available resources to orbital shipyards, finishing off the BAV's construction for good. (Needs NPOV rewrite BADLY)

In spite of this, an innumerable number of BAV 3's were constructed, the majority of which have been repurposed and upmodded by collectors and private militaries alike due to their ease of use, ease of modularity, and iconic "cannons on legs" shape. (Who?)

It is thought that at least three billion were constructed and fielded by the end of the war (By whom?).
