[Setting] Digital Space - Unknown

| >With the power coming back on, so did the Matrix...
>By using a certain program that was made public last year, a group of youngsters inadvertently stumbled upon a bizarre cyberspace
>The method to reach this place was then published on /u/, along with crazy stories of the monsters encountered there and stories of lethal dump shocks

>The first thing anyone connecting to the space would see is a small room, covered in caked dirt and blood... empty save for a chair and a door

| >somebody
>a boy connects
"...what the.."

| >USER: "Guilty_Snark" Connects

"Wew boi, is this a horror setting or what?"

| > Zantetsuken connects to the matrix, though without the log announcing their presence. For the moment their avatar doesn't load and they only have 'camera' view of the space.

"...Hm. What's this?"

| >There is no air current here, and almost no light, despite that, you can see the entirety of the room

| "Well. This just reeks suspect"
>the boy moves over and opens the door

| >>554899
>Behind the door is a large open space housing houses and a well
>It seems to be an abandoned mining village, judging by the mine-cart tracks leading in and out of a nearby cave
>The air is thick with dust, which reflects the sun's rays
>Seems like the chair room was a small shack, located near the plaza... there are only six houses in this place, most of which are in obvious disrepair

| >>554905
>he coughs at the dust
"damn thats realistic"
>he heads over to inspect the well
"Welp, lets see what eldritch AI hoo doo voo doo veritas bull awaits me.."

| >>554907
>The well is filled with dark brown water, tainted by dirt and mud
>Drinking it would probably be a bad idea, although you don't have to be a genius to understand that

| >>554910
"Huh"
>he takes a rock and tosses it directly up in the air
>then heads to the house it lands closest to
"Lawn darts style navigation...
..
I need to break the habit of talking to myself...:"

| >>554914
>The rock moves forward... before stopping and dropping straight down, towards a small bungalow with smashed windows
>The lawn is long and what was once a flowerbed is now a host of weeds
>You can hear the sound of flowing water

| >>554931
"Aww that flower garden might have made this place *not* look like ass.
Then again, its a simulation aaannnnnd im talking to nobody again.
*sigh* classy cassius. Bloody classy"
>he shakes his head and investigates the water

| "Mates, something tells me this is no ordinary Matrix instance..." -Guilty_Snark

| >>554935
>Behind the house is a flowing creak, the water there, unlike in the well, is crystalline
>The floating dust makes the place look barren, there are no trees here, no bushes, it seems deep in the Tundra

| >>554980
"Huh...hmmm..
Nowhere else to go.
Might as well.."
>he follows the creek i a walk as leisurely as possible as one can in a dusty Probably AI simulation that may or may not fekin end him

>in said walk he scoops up some water with his hands and gives it a sip

| >>554984
>The water tastes refreshing, but stale, normal river taste
>Following the creak leads you to the outskirts of the hamlet, where a small wall of stone is erected, along with a shoddy watchtower...
>From this place, you can see quite far, seems like you are on a mountain, probably near the summit, the sheer height is astonishing

| >>554991
"Huh"
>he looks for a way up the watchtower
"Bet its a nice view up there..."

| >>554993
>A small ladder leads up to the top of the watchtower
>Indeed, the view is incredible, this is the true meaning of nature's beauty...
>The dust has begun to clear as a soft breeze rustles in

| >>554995
"...nice..."
>after taking a bit to fully appreciate the moment
>he inhales deeply
>the trys for a more in depth look of the mountain
>both inside and beyond the walls

| >The base of the mountain is a large valley, you can see a delta converging to it, along with a small town
>The summit is quite high above the village, covered in eternal snow... there seems to be a small path leading up to it, but doing so might be perilous without proper preparation
>You can also spy a herd of sheep not too far from the walls, grazing on moss

| >>554999
>he laughs a bit
>why? Beats me
"With the rumor floating around, the last thing i expected was the sight of home..."
>ah.
>it seems at this point, he gave up on not not not talking to himself(and i gave up on grammer)
>not like there was anybody there

>he makes his way back to the hamlet using the sight and the creek as a means of navigation

| >You easily make your way back into the mining hamlet
>The dust has cleared, making the place look a tad less desolate

| >>555024
"Mmmhhhmmm"

>he heads over to that house from earlier with the dead flowers bed
>and trys to open the door
"...hmmm..if i wanna head up that mountain,i might need supplies.."
>he ponders while before attempting said door open

| >>555027
>The door opens with a loud creak
>The inside is just as dilapidated as the outside, with ripped sofas strew in the living room, a broken radio and many, many shards of glass
>The kitchen isn't faring much better, if the smell of rotting meat is anything to go by
>Clearly, the power has been cut...

| >>555034
"Begs the question of who made this..."
>he picks up some of the glass
>specifically some he deems worthy of fashioning into glass arrow heads
>then gives the kitchen a better look

| >>555039
>The kitchen, other than smelling like hell, is dirty with mold and dust, seems like this place was left to the elements for a while
>Oddly enough, there are no other rooms, not even a bedroom

| >>555054
"Hmmm...guess they focused or realism rather then world design"
>he moves on to the next house, on the look out for any sticks and such along the way

| >>555057
>There is a bunch of reclaimed wood lying around the next house, which seems to also have had a garage at some point, now collapsed

| >>555065
>insert wellthatwasconvienient.png here
>he rummages through the wood for some sticks that can make good arrow shafts and bow

| >>555068
>The wood is very dry and dusty... frankly, it could break at the merest hint of force
>The breeze has slowed down now

| >>555070
"..hmm everything can have a use...
Fuck if i know what these are though"
>hurr durr
>at least he knows where to get fire wood

>after much deliberation ala throwing a stick to the ground and seeing if it will break or not
>he decides f it, there is nothing to do, and sets off on the mountain path up

| >The path is steep, covered in tiny pebbles
>As you ascend the path, you arrive to a bridge crossing a large overhang... it's broken
>A large waterfall is here, dropping down to the valley, a fall from this height would surely prove lethal

| >>555077
"Alrighty, this feels like a videogame instance.
Neat"

>on the way he picked up a slightly bigger pebble
>not even for any reason
>just one of those things where you pick up a rock on the side of the road as a kid because you thought it looked nice

>flavor text aside he looks over at the waterfall

| >>555078
>You can see shadows behind the waterfall, as if a cave lined the other side

| >>555079
"Hmmm..."
>now the question is
>does he want to go into the creepy waterfall cave in the Probably death simulation
>Completely unarmed outside of a nice looking rock and some glass shards?

>the answer, is yes

>nothing venture nothing gained
>he looks for a way in

| >>555081
>You could maybe make the jump, but it might be slippery
>If you had a long enough plank, bridging the gap would be an easy feat

| >>555085
"Hmmm..."
>he hmmms for the Probably alot time today while heading back to town
>and looks around the well in the center

| >>555086
>The area around the well is mostly empty, save for a few rocks

| >>555092
"Hmmm...
....
...
I need to stop hmmming..."
>he looks around for a slightly sharper rock

| >>555133
>You easily obtain a few

| >>555433
>he takes 4

>he approaches the well
>and tosses in the nice looking rock, says a silent wish, then carrys on
"I dont have a coin, but hey, might work.
I wish for something interesting to happen"
>thats Probably not the best wish if it ever comes true

>from there he looks into an unexplored house close to the starting one

| >>555510
>The inside of the house looks extremely similar to the last one, but the walls are covered in scribbles
>Circles and runes line the walls, along with numbers and maps
>You can distinctly make out the words 'Too many, too little'

| >>555528
"Ooo plot thickens"
>he inspects the runes and circles

| >>555531
>The runes seem to have been carved into the walls and floor
>It all seems to have a pattern, but then again, it's all just a bunch of squiggles...

| >>555535
>if he is somehow able to screenshot then he does

>then looks around for an actually sturdy stick

| >>555537
>Any form of tech seems to go somewhat haywire inside of here, asides from augs
>The table has been shattered into splinters, some nice sticks

| >>555538
"Trippy
Oh well, sticks"
>he takes the table leg and some of the longer splinters
(Is the table board itself unbroken?)

| >>555542
>The table's board is indeed intact, if not a bit moldy

| >>555544
"Hope thats long enough to bridge the gap..."
>he drags it to the well
>then heads to the creek house

>using a sharp rock, he attempt to cut off peices of the couch for cloth and twine

| >>555546
>The couch's material is porous and thin, unfit for making ropes, the thread itself is falling apart in many spots

| >>555751
"Booo i have to use my shirt"
>he takes of his jacket
>then his shirt
>then his tank top
>put the jacket and shirt back on without the tanktop

>then tears the tanktop for cloth
>doing all this while walking to the well
>then when he is there, he makes a three pronged spear using the table leg, three sharp rocks and the scrap cloth

>Probably takes a bit of time However

| >>555753
>Indeed, and as you finish your work, the sun has begun to set...

| >>555753
(Er 4 pronged spear rather.
Kinda like this but with rocks
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcT7vWZ-BK2kpMiSoZ02fu8R6ORQtVUfVighn-byZjbTRvNddTpU )

| >>555756
>with that out of the way, as final preparations
>he puts the table plank over the well and attemps to stand on it to see if it can support his weight

| >>555758
>It holds, albeit with some creaking

| >>555812
"Gooood"
>he drags it all the way to the waterfall
>and attempts to use it as a makeshift bridge to cross the gap

| >>555893
>The bridge holds and you pass on behind the waterfall
>This cave is lined with crystalline formations and drawings, along with a small shrine

| >>556012
>needless to say, he investigates
>he inspects the crystals and drawings first

| >>556015
>The crystals look like some sort of fragile silicate, probably salt
>The drawings on the other hand look like primitive cave drawings of people hunting

| >>556066
"Huh, well, now for the elephant in the room"
>he checks out the alter

| >>556109
>The small shrine is quite old and only houses a small box and a statue of the buddha

| >>556317
"Hmmm...then what was the shadows i saw earlier..."
>he decides to wait there for a moment

| >The air is stale here... and ominous

| >>556394
>he sits down, eyeing the waterfall for movement
>shits got him paranoid..yet..hopeful that something is actually there

| >>556398
>On the surface of the water, you can see faint shadows dancing, like a video artifact, it seems harmless, but is eerie nonetheless

| >>556524
"Hmmm..nothing after all.."
>he chips off a small piece of crystal and heads back to the village after a small prayer
>not the religious fellow but why not?

| >>556526
>You make your way back to the village... night has begun to fall

| >>556769
"Wait...no...i think i know whats going to happen..."
>he takes some wood from the wood pile
>then pulls out a lighter if possible and makes a small camp fire near the well which he sits near
"...rumors of monsters...an abandoned village..mountains side...drawings of hunts and archaic symbols...hmmmm"
>he looks to the sky
"Yep...i am going to die here arent i...?"
>he stands up and looks around
>if hes right the monsters will be coming soon

| >>556771
>Night finally falls
>The sky is cloudy and the moon hidden, no light reaches this place save for an otherworldly glow emanating from the nearby mine entrance
>Laughter can be heard from the hills

| >>556980
>he takes cover in the nearest optimal hideaway and readies the 4 pronged spear

| >>556981
>You can hear shuffling near the houses
>The laughter is slowly gaining in strength

| >>557246
>he raises his jackets hood hoping the darker blue color blends in better then peeks his head out slightly

| >>557250
>You can see things shambling around the village
>They have no distinct features, and their entire bodies seem made of grey matter, like a brain... they have hundreds of eyes and a glowing blueish hue draws lines on their bodies, like bulging veins
>They have no mouths, but an eerie laugh escapes their bodies
>Some have arms, some don't, some have four legs, some don't have any at all
>All in all, they are quite grotesque

| >>557318
"Ugh..">gross
>he counts out how many are there
>at least that he can see

| >>557358
>You can only see five of varying height and shape, but the sound would indicate a much larger number
>The glow from the caves seems to keep them away, as none of them remotely approach it

| >>557368
>he trows a glass shard in a direction away from him and the cave hoping they would be baited by the sound
>then sneaks to the cave

| >>557369
>All of the creatures turn around and head for the glass shard with a thunderous screech as hundreds of mouths open on their bodies, rapidly rushing to devour their prey
>You make it to the caves, there's a small minecart track here which leads down into the well-lit caverns

| >>557370
"Sweet jebus above. That. Is. Horrific."
>he shivers a bit after seeing that and heads down the cave
>following the minecart tracks

| >>557371
>The caves seem quite spacious, and in between the wooden beams holding up the tunnel and the mining equipment, there is much unused space...
>You eventually arrive at a checkpoint, made of metal
>A large sign reads: DECONTAMINATION CHECKPOINT NO.1
>Various other warnings are present, mostly mundane health and safety... save for one
>KEEP OUT OF THE SHADOWS, TRAVEL IN GROUP, KEEP YOUR FLARE GUN OUT, DON'T DIE

| >>557377
"Probably not good that i am alone and without a flaregun then..."
>he checks the mining equipment

| >>557378
>Pickaxes, drills and helmets, along with thick protective outfits and gas masks
>You can also see a quite hefty flare gun, loaded with an equally large cartridge

| >>557437
"Ok scratch that, just alone.."
>he dons a gas mask and takes the flare gun alongside any ammo
>then continues down the mines

| >>557444
>You pass through the checkpoint
>After undergoing decontamination, you enter a large cave... inside of which is a whole mining camp
>You can see dorms, a refectory and a supply hangar. Unlike outside, this place doesn't seem decrepit
>Cameras line the walls here, and follow your movements

| >>557647
>he waves at the cameras
"Hiiiiii"
>then breakdances
>he is actually pretty good too

| >>557649
>You hear the sound of an intercom
"Now if this ain't a surprise. I thought this instance was closed off. I suggest you get out of here, fast."
>The voice of an older man is heard

| >>557650
"What makes you say that mister?
The crazy brain monsters topside?"
>he says after breaking a freeze pose

| >>557652
"Not only those. If you think these things are the worst this goddamn hellhole has to offer, then you are sorely mistaken... but if you insist on staying."
>The voice trails off
"Since you're here, would you care for a job?"

| >>557655
"Meh why not? Whats in it for me though? I mean ill do it either way but i wanna know if i get something out of it."
>he says while readjusting jacket
"Also i dont know how to leave."
>then does a windmill, b-boy style

| >>557657
"I'll patch you to my associate then."
>He goes silent, just as a high-pitched voice rings out
"Yahoo! It's me Ghersh! Owner of GC's Lavi-Ratory! Yo yo!"
>It's an annoying voice
"Monty told me you'd take care of the server for us! Thankies! I'll give you plenty of service if you make it back, so yay!"

| >>557680
"...you know what i regret asking.
Just tell me what need to be done please"
>he pulls out the crystal he chipped off
"Also im going to need a mortar and pestle or other griding equipment if you have"

| >>557684
"Sorry, can't directly assist you. Besides providing you with some tips and tricks. So as for the mission..."
>She coughs
"I need you to reach the depths of this cave and shut off the terminal that's there. Do that, and you'll safely disconnect."

| >>557937
>he sighs
"Well, its all i got to work off at the moment.
Just give me a moment."
>he sits down
>then takes a rock, the crystal, and a piece of cloth
>he puts the crystal over the cloth and grinds it to a powder
>then stuffs the powder bag somewhere
"Pocket sand!..or whatever that this is"

| "Survivalist much? By the way, those big things hate the light emitted by burning phosphorus. So keep those flares handy, it'll repel all of them."
>You can hear papers being moved
"Oh, also. Best be on your toes, someone other than you is logged in. Could be hostile."

| >>558191
"Heh i played to many VR survival games"
>he starts making his way down
"Oh one more thing before i go"
>he asks before leaving
"Can Whatever is down there can be blinded?"

| >>558254
"Nah, their eyes don't see like we do. They can't be killed and feel zero pain, so don't waste time trying to fight them off either."
>The girl sighs
"Well good luck down there! And watch your back!"

| >>558255
"Balls. Well thanks for the tip"
>he makes his way down further

|

| >>558258
>You head further down into the mine, until you reach another checkpoint
>Seems like there are no lights down there, and the sounds of shuffling have returned

| >>558771
>he taps his feet making a sound
>just enough for him to use echolocation to make his way
>barely
>like..reallly barely
>less then a bat but better then a human barely

| >>558774
>Your surroundings are quite perilous, seems like a cliff lies a few steps away, that's where the shuffling comes from
>You'd best go around the gaping hole

| >>558977
"...that echo went further then the rest..
...ah. A hole.."
>he attemps to skirt by the hole
>as silently as possible buut its had to do that when one is relying on sound to navigate

| >>558980
>You make it past the hole

| >>559257
>he continues down the lost mines of phandelver!
>all thw while, wondering what this mine is actually named

|

| >>559271
>You arrive in a largeish room, glowing monsters are present and block the only way to go
>There are five of them

| >>559701
>he looks around
>if there is anywhere for them to be baited away from the exit
>then he throws another glass shard to hopefully bait them away

| >>559702
>The creatures turn to the bait and begin screeching loudly
>The path is clear!

| >>559888
>he proceeds yet again
"How the hell did that work twice?"
>he mutters once far away
>still, not keen on taking his blessings for granted, he dosen't think about it too much

| >>559892
>The lights come back on here
>You find yourself at another large cave, this time, there is a large pond and a smallish waterfall... along with a very large thing standing guard over some sort of computer terminal
>The thing looks nothing like the others, it's body is leaner and much more human, but the texture is off, like someone tore off the skin and painted the exposed flesh with lacquer

| >>559909
"Alrighty, time to bust a move"
>he begins to sprint a bit before gaining enough momentum forna wall run
>with his spear at the ready he gets as close to the computer as possible.
>then shoots the guard with a flare

| >>559981
>The flare hits the guard, who shrieks loudly as his skin begins burning
>It turns to you and begins pulling back, away from the light of the flare
>It's scream is the stuff of nightmare

| >>560468
>he picks up the burning flare (which i assume to be on the ground)
>then puts in the space in the middle of the four prongs on his spear

>he throws it at the beast hoping that the spear would stick to it
>and continue burning it thanks to the flare in the middle being stuck between it unable to tumble out

>thats the plan anyway

| >>560471
>The creature falls back away from the flare-spear and evades it!
>Nonetheless, it's still burning, and begins running around the cave while screeching

| >>560476
"mange merde mon pote"
>he quickly sprints and slide over to the spear
>hoping to pick it up
>then goes for the stab assuming he gets it

| >>560477
>You stab the thing... which screeches really loud
>It runs away and leaves the cave, leaving fire in it's wake

| >>560479
"That was.."
>he pants
"..you know what f it.
No one liner this time."
>if he has any more ammo he reloads
>of not then i guess hes boned
>either way he goes to inspect the terminal

| >>560482
>You are out of ammo
>The Terminal looks older than most tech you've ever seen, and whirs loudly as it comes to life
