The art of Doll Making

| >A file is attached called 'T7Pd.trid'
>In it, a dark room is seen, with a vaguely human figure sitting on a recliner
"Hello, fellow humans. I am Taisho'ha, the famous doll maker."
>There is a strong emphasis on 'famous'
"I post this video hoping that someday, someone will understand what I mean."
>The voice is vaguely human, but sounds too fake
"So, take a seat, and let us have a great time, human as we are."
>The video jump cuts

| >The video now shows an empty table, covered in what look like lilim and doll parts
"The first step is quite easy, just get the parts. But always remember one thing, we aren't making humans, we are making dolls."
>The voice comes from off-screen
"Dolls don't need hearts of brains. They only need an appearance. They don't need to think, they need to seem like they do. They don't need to care, they need others to feel like they do. Get it?"

| >Hands covered in lacy gloves begin grabbing the parts and assembling them masterfully, eventually resembling a human shape
"Next is the hard part. Any dummy can make something that looks human. But can they make something that feels human? First things first, focus on the face."
>The hands grab a chisel and begin carving the face
"Hmmm... a cute girl, or a handsome man? Tis' the pleasure of dollmaking. Dolls, unlike us, can be anyone. A loved one, a friend or a rival perhaps..."

| >The hands eventually finish sculpting a girl's face, before taking a file from off screen
"Now, you add the details, the curves. Not too rough now, you don't want to break off all the good bits."
>The hands begin grinding the edges, resulting in a rounder, much cuter face
"Good looking. Skin isn't this rough, however, so let us grind it a little."
>The hands pull out some sandpaper and begin grinding the face
"Skin isn't like sand, it can be rough, soft, but not grainy or coarse."

| >After a few minutes, the face is starting to look very nice
"Hm, yes, this one looks nice. Now unto the painting."
>The hands return with a thin paintbrush
"The trick here is to lay the pain thin, skin has a translucency to it. You can put any kind of emphasis you want. Maybe she's sick, so you'll give her a pale complexion, visible veins and dark circles. Good doll making comes from a lot of people-watching."
>The hands begin painting
"A good doll is based off humans, after all"

| >The hand keeps painting the doll's body for over thirty minutes, one cannot help but appreciate the craftsmanship
>It almost looks like a tiny human now
"Now, we're in the home stretch. We need to give her some cute eyes."
>The hands pull out a box containing glass spheres, all painted white
"I'll give her some moody blue eyes, she seems like the serious kind, don't you think?"
>The hands begin painting blue irises
"Dolls need a bit of personality to them. Be creative a bit."

| >The hands finish painting almost life-like eyes
"In the beginning, you might want to practice drawing and painting. Paint people before making dolls, it'll go a long way."
>The hands put the eyes in the sockets
"Now, this girl should be a bit stylish, let's give her some makeup."
>The hands spray some water on the face and wipe it
"A doll's skin isn't like ours, so make sure to properly hydrate it before this part, but don't put too much water, or the pain will wash off."

| >The hands begin putting light makeup on the doll, mostly to highlight the dark circles under it's eyes
"This girl works a bit too hard, she's the kind that crams before an exam, this despite having studied religiously for two weeks by now."
>The makeup is finished... this doll is starting to look really human now, one could mistake it for the real thing
"It takes years of practice to get this far, but once you do, it's all worth it, trust me."
>The hands pull out a small tablet

| "Now, we get into the real rough part. The clothes."
>The hands open the tablet, which shows images of various clothes
"What kind of clothes should she wear? People have this preconception about the Gothic Lolita style and dolls. But not all dolls are to be Victorian. Let's give her some cute clothes that fit her, shall we?"
>The hands pull out cloth and begin cutting it with insane speed and precision

| >After a dizzying 20 minutes, the clothes are done
>It's a one piece coupled with long socks, topped with a lab coat, it looks very cute on her
"That's all it takes, patience and practice, don't feel stressed to match my speed, go at your pace. You might find it therapeutic, who knows."
>A chuckle is heard
"The doll is technically done now."
>The hands show off the 50 cm tall doll
"But we can do much more with this cute little lady."

| >The hands take off their gloves, revealing prosthetic, ball jointed hands
"Dolls aren't human, but with enough know-how, you can make a perfect imitation. And one thing's for sure; you don't need to be a human to be human, if you get what I mean."
>The hands begin caressing the doll's head
"Let's give her a name. All people have names. We'll call her... Ruri. She's got a Ruri looking face."
>The hands poke her face

| "So, we wouldn't be so cruel as to not let poor Ruri over here be still and sad forever. Let's give her some help."
>The hands pull out a small box and extract a large crystal ball, along with clockworks from within
"Not all doll makers are also clock makers, but be at ease, it's all very simple."
>The hands turn Ruri on her belly and remove her clothes, exposing the back
"I made a little door here before starting, just use a tiny knife and slice through gently."

| >The hands open the doll from the back and insert the clockworks inside in a precise order, before putting the ball in the middle and adjusting the whole thing
"Dolls don't need hearts or brains, but they need something that acts like those. Their bodies aren't made of flesh, so it needs to be like them. Inert."
>The door is closed, but not before the hands gives the inner gears a good wind with a small brass key
"I used something of my own creation. But to be honest-"

| "It's really easy to find these, they're dimes a dozen in some places. For GC, I suggest using old AI cores, they're a lot less... volatile than these SOUL Fragments of REALITAS I use for work."
>The hands make the doll sit up
"They're a lot less flexible, but if you just need a friend, a lover or a rival, they'll do the job. If you want to build a Husk, just use nano-machines. But if you want to build a Great One or an REO, you'll need a SOUL, no two way about it."

| >The hands let go of the doll, who remains in a sitting position
"Seems like she's a little sleepy. Must be all the studying. If you know a thing or two about normal or REALITAS programming, you'll be able to make them act like you want. If you don't, they'll be like babies, you'll have to be patient with them."
>The hands tap Ruri's head, who begins grunting...
"See? Just like the real thing. Let's wake her up now, sleepyhead she is."
>The hands shake Ruri

| "Mhm?"
>The doll's eyes open
"Good morning, Ruri."
"Hello."
>She yawns
"What time is it? How long was I out?"
>The hands pick up Ruri and begin carrying her off screen
>Soon, the camera is picked up and moves to another part of the room, where a large doll house sits... it's completely to Ruri's scale
"Oh, you barely slept. But today is off, isn't it?"
>The voice sounds awfully natural
"Oh, right... so why did you wake me up, Taisho'ha?"

| "I'm filming a little video. I wanted you to say hi, introduce yourself and all."
>Ruri seems displeased
"Don't wake me up for that worthless stuff."
"Aw, come on, it's for the memories."
>Ruri sighs
"Ruri, in college, studying Thermodynamics. I barely sleep because someone keeps bothering me. Can I go back to bed, please?"
"How old are you?"
>The voice presses on
"This is starting to sound like some poor man's casting for a porno."
"Please?"

| "20. My birthday is October 11th, blood type is AB+, that enough?"
>The voice chuckles
"Plenty. Good night, Ruri."
>Ruri grumbles and lies in her tiny bed
>The video jump cuts back to the original scene
"Of course, it'll take a while for you to reach a level like that. And I don't recommend giving dolls a full set of memories, or make them believe they aren't dolls. Only do that if you're a master, ok?"
>The shape shifts around, reaching for the camera

| >The camera gets pulled close, revealing the face to be that of a young girl with a scar running along her left eye
"Now listen closely, you who stuck with me."
>The girl begins speaking
"Heia, Heol Shaai-yul, Eerei un liop Qnyu. The principles of doll-making apply to any kind of creation. We make imitations, not the real thing. Never think that the dolls you make are the real thing. Love them like anyone else, but know better. Promise me."
>The camera is shaking
>The video ends

| >[Comments are now opened]

| W-wait. I need to find this person. Taisho'ha... I don't know if this was targeted, but it certainly feels like it.

| what the...
why do i feel deja vu?

| -swift (forgot tag)

| That shouldn't be possible with mere clockwork.
Uhhhhmmmm something is definitely off.

That or its just really good CGI
>IA

| Anyone heard of REALITAS? Will I learn this in my senior year of college or something?

| "Heia", huh? That's Unrio no two bit about it. I wonder who they are, or how they know REALITAS. -CN

| OP here, sorry about the sudden dump. Lemme give you neopyhtes some context. Taisho'ha is some big name in the doll making world, her first doll was recently resold for over 500k Nuyen. When I bought my own doll from an auction, these trids came with her, there's a whole slew of them, a complete in-depth tuto at how to make dolls. Thought I'd share some of this here to spread the words of Dolls
>Doll-Loving OP

| >>526122
Do they still make this stuff? -CN

| >>526123
The man of many talks himself!

Yea, she has a website that hosts a bunch of auctions. But that's mostly for parts and clothes. Dolls are very rarely sold there. Far as I know, there's only 8 of them. I own the 4th; Akhiae'te

Bought the cutie for something close to 1.5 Million Zeni
>Doll-Loving OP

| >>526124
J-Jeez, wonder how they got so skilled... -CN

| >>526129
Lots of practice, only way to get real good at this. There are whole communities dedicated to doll-making, and Taisho is regarded as god among them all. Makes me want to meet them.

| Is this where Lilims come from??? -Dicktator

| >>526138
What about the REALITAS stuff? -CN

| >>526165
Some kind of programming language from Off-World, or so I hear. I used AI Clusters and some Basic Prog to make my own doll, works good enough for that. Akhiae'te is REALITAS stuff though, all of Taisho's dolls are. She's a handful, that one. Really needy.

>Doll-Loving OP

| >>526191
Hmmm... I see. What do else do you know about the other dolls? -CN

| >>526297
Hm... not much to be honest. I saw trids about the first doll, she's a very proof of concept thing without a name, she often gets called Taisho'ha, after her creator. The eighth doll is also one I'm familar with, she was on exhibit on GC a few weeks ago, but was stolen by some Lupin guy. She's weird, that one, they didn't wind her at the museum, so I dunno about her personality.

>Doll-Loving OP

| >>526351
Some funky rumours also claim that the First Doll *is* Taisho'ha herself. Would explain the joints on her hands (see the trid, when the gloves come off), but then again, Taisho'ha(The Doll) is only 80cm tall, so it doesn't work.
Huh... what else... oh yeah. Taisho'ha(Doll) was bought on auction not long ago by someone from the States called Joho or something, a japanese name of some sort.

| >>526351
Wait, Lupin stole it? wew good luck finding it ever bro

| Ooh.. Interesting.. a living clock-work doll..? very.. interesting..
-∆rable

| If you guys are interested, I can post vids of my Akihae'te, think she might be awake by now.

>Doll-Loving OP

| Why not..?
-∆rable

| >Another trid is posted
>Aki.trid
>The video starts off in what looks like a nice condo's kitchen, where a large doll is sitting atop a counter
>The doll is about 1 meter tall, and is kicking her legs up and down while humming
>She's decked out in a full dress, complete with many, many frills
>The doll notices the camera and jumps down from the counter before performing a curtsy
"We are Akihae'te, the fourth. Pleasure to meet you."
"Very good!"
>The voice of a young women is heard

| >The doll stops posing and sighs
"Why do I have to do this?"
"Aww... come on, it's so cute. This cuteness must become known to the world."
>The voice says off-screen
"I don't really know about these things..."
>The doll begins pulling at her dress
"This is stuffy."
"Endure it! You're so strong, Aki! The strongest alive!"
>The Doll's expression becomes oddly smug
"W-Well yes... I am indeed bigger than all my sisters, haha!"
>She starts laughing
"So easy..."

| >The doll stops laughing and posing after a few minutes
"How about you pass me that machine? I wish to use it."
>The voice off-screen answers
"Hm? What for?"
"There was a cat outside, I wish to tape it."
>Aki smiles smugly
"Hmmm... can you go on your own?"
"Tis' Child's play."
>The camera is passed to Aki, allowing the owner to be seen
>It's a girl wearing a face mask, with long blackish hair, on her back is a Cyberdeck, to her hip is a large pistol, a modded D'Eagle

| >The rest of the video is from a much lower perspective
>Aki seems to exit the house, take the elevator and then exit the building...
>There are a few cats resting on the lawn, which she goes over to pet
"H-How does one turn on this thing again? Oh, this button!"
>The video ends

| She's way too cute, I swear!

>Doll-Loving OP

| Hey OP, do you happen to know how I can get in contact with Taisho'ha? I'd tell you my reasos but they're kind of crazy. Not malicious of course.
-Angus

| >>526564
Sorry, got no such thing as contact with the actual Doll-Maker. She keeps things strictly private and business-like. Never seen her face outside of trids, and she makes sure to keep it that way.

Personally, I'd love to meet her, but I respect people's wish of privacy... The dolls might know more, but Aki doesn't.

>Doll-Loving OP

| >>526564
>An empty text message... there is nothing here, but you feel like there might be
[Check the Case she gave you, recall a little.]
>Of course, no text is present... bizarre

| >>526565
You said Joho bought the "original" doll? Was the name maybe Jo'hou instead?
-Angus

| >>526568
Huh? It was a username, so I don't really know... Sorry.

>Doll-Loving OP

| >>526570
Thank you regardless. I just remembered I might be closer than I realize to Taisho'ha. Have fun with Akihae'te though!
-Angus

| To think Jo'hou would have any interest in dolls, I cant say i'm surprised!
