| That was about 3 days ago. Everything between then and now is kind of a haze. My mother is gone, presumedly dead and I'm affraid I'm to blame for this.
I contemplated ending it and just jumping off a building but that won't accomplish anything either.

Well, a week before I took the job, the boss from my dayjob disappeared. turns out he commited some sort of fraud and had to bail. So I lost my dayjob. Then, my girlfriend left me and my favourite bar closed. I don't know what happened but from one day to the other, they just closed. The owner was a friend of mine but I couldn't find her anywhere.
Then, I take this huge ass job, almost got killed and found out some corpo rigged the whole game from the start

I somehow got out of it.
I think the corpo guy was as surprised as I was, but at the very least he paid... not as much as initially agreed, but its something.
Now I come home to GC and find out my mom is missing along with her tomatoes.
God, I... I just wished I... I don't know. Maybe if I didn't get her the plants she wouldn't be missing right now.
...I really hope she isn't...

Investigation is gonna be pretty hard. Though, 3 days have passed and I'm not sure if they have moved on by now.... but there is a place that would be good to look for, either through police connections or hacking.
Both is a no go for me but maybe one of you guys got something?

All I know is that the plants were gone... I guess if there was some leftover like broken leafs or something, the police should've bagged it already.

I'm suggesting that the fact these tomatoes are missing along with the people that usually tend to them might mean they are safe.
Don't wanna throw false hopes.
But the mutation causes a very strong and lingering smell of burnt wood. That's at the moment the implant powers up: the energy accumulated during its passive phase is released and generates heat.
Mutation generates small current → Implant charges.
Implant is threatened → defensive action.

What kind of evidence do you need to varify your theory?
Now that I'm thinking about it, I probably can get into the crimescene with a minidrone. If I'm cautious I can probably take a look around the scene and see what I can find.

If you want to be sure, look at the former plantation.
If it's all cleanly taken off, there's no way my story checks.
If it's all completely ravaged and torn apart, you should look for overgrown plant remains.
They won't look anything like tomato plants. They'll look more like wood from an old tree. And a huge one at that.
